Whether you are in town for a day or five, here is a sample itinerary with tips on how to combine an Amsterdamsel walking tour with the eats and activities you shouldn’t miss. We can arrange an entire package for you! But where possible, we’ve also provided links with how you can book tickets yourself directly to avoid waiting in lines at particular sites.

Day One

09:30 – 12:30 Orientation of Amsterdam with a guided walking Amsterdamsel Tour of the old city centre

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch the typical Dutch way. We help you choose the best, local option nearby. Choose from:

  • Dutch pancakes in a pannenkoekenhuis
  • Flemish fries and krokets
  • herring, kibbeling, mackerel, or smoked eel
  • diner-style genuine meatball, eel, kroket, ham sandwiches at a local institution

13:30 – 18:30 Choose an afternoon activity or two that suit you!

  • take a canal cruise in Amsterdam’s UNESCO World Heritage 17th century canals***

  • visit the old Heineken Brewery, now a museum with free beer samples***
  • learn about the flavours and ageing of gouda and goat’s cheese with  a one-hour cheese tasting of six cheeses paired with three wines

19:00 – 21:00 Dine on a feast you can only get in the Netherlands:

  • Dutch “meat and potatoes” style cuisine (stamppot, sausage, pea soup)
  • Indonesian rijsttafel (flavourful mix of vegetable and meat dishes)
  • Moroccan couscous, lamb, harina, and other Northern African delights

Day Two

14:30 – 18:30 take an Amsterdamsel cycling tour of Amsterdam’s architecture or outlying countryside

  • Indonesian rijsttafel (flavourful mix of vegetable and meat dishes)

Day Three: Jewish Heritage Theme

10:00 – 10:30 visit the inside of the Hollandsche Schouwburg, memorial to Jewish victims

10:45 – 12:30 visit the Dutch Resistance Museum

12:30 – 13:30 lunch in the historic Jewish Quarter

14:00 – 15:00 visit the inside of the 17th century Portuguese Synagogue

15:00 – 16:00 visit the inside of the Jewish Historic Museum, former Ashkenazi synagogue

16:00 – 18:00 shop for gifts and clothes at Waterlooplein flea market, originally a Jewish outdoor market

19:00 – 21:00 Dine on a feast you can only get in the Netherlands:

  • Dutch “meat and potatoes” style cuisine (stamppot, sausage, pea soup)
  • Indonesian rijsttafel (flavourful mix of vegetable and meat dishes)

Day Four

Take a day trip or half day (or combine cities) to Haarlem, Delft, the Hague, or countryside towns like Edam, Marken, and Volendam

20:00 – 22:30 enjoy a concert in world class venues like the Concertgebouw, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t Ij, or rock out at the Paradiso or Melkweg–where live bands and DJs play every night

Day Five 

Be sure to spend a day enjoying a festival. There’s sure to be one going on somewhere!

21:00 – 23:00 night cruise by candlelight with drinks

*** no reservations required; cruises depart throughout town every 30 minutes or less, last 60-75 minutes, and cost between €10 – €18; the Heineken Brewery is open ’til late and there’s no line to get in
